Midnightblack® carbon black pigments and dispersions

Midnightblack®, D&C Black 2, is an exclusive, very pure carbon black pigment which allows cosmetic formulators to create deep black mascara's and eyeliners. Geotech is the market leader for this product range in the cosmetic industry. Midnightblack® is used by the major cosmetic producers.

In order to get the full colour tone out of carbon black it is of paramount importance that a good dispersion is made. The properties of carbon black require some special attention. A turbo mill or roller mill is needed to disperse the carbon black powder. Except for the standard powder form Geotech offers "ready to use" Midnightblack® dispersions.

Two types of Midnightblack® dispersions are available:

MBD 221 Water
A general purpose dispersion with a 20% Midnightblack® loading. This dispersion is commonly used in mascara’s, eyeliners and other water based products.

MBD 203 Isododecane
This dispersion was specially developed for waterproof mascara. The standard dispersion contains 20% Midnightblack® and 70% Isododecane.

Carbon black has a large surface area, typical BET value of 220 m²/g. Hence the absorption is high.  you can rely upon the technical properties of Midnight Black to create a higher viscosity thus reducing the need for thickeners.

Midnightblack® complies to the EU, US and Japanese regulations for cosmetics.
