Special effect pigments for the plastic industry
Geotech effect pigments have been used in the plastic industry for many years now by a variety of customers such as SABIC and Clariant. Geopearl® , Geodiamond® and Geometal® effect pigments turn basic plastics into special, unique products.
Potential areas of application cover several methods of thermoplastic processing such as extrusion, co-extrusion, injection molding and casting resins (buttons for textile).
Product range for plastics
The following product ranges are available for the plastic industry:
- Geometal® aluminum glitter;
- Geopearl®, mica based pearlsecent pigments;
- Geodiamond®, borosilicate pigments;
- Paracelsus® ATBC, bismuth oxychloride dispersion;
Added value
Geotech offers guideline formulations for injection moulding. The laboratory in Haarlem can help you formulating the right product and match colours upon request. Furthermore we offer our customers and distributors free courses 'formulating effect pigments' in our laboratory.
Formulating effect pigments
In extrusion processes the use of masterbatches or compounds is the best way to achieve colour and effect in end products.
Effect pigments can be used directly in powder form in various types of plastics. Geopearl® pearlescent pigments are very stable and best processed at temperatures at the upper end of the range.
For Geopearl® the orientation of the pigment flakes is important for the final result. This orientation is a result of flow characteristics within the melt.
Coarse effect pigments, like the Geopearl® Bright and Sparkling range and Geometal® glitter flakes do not create flaws in the end products.
Geopearl® and Geodiamond® pigments are stable up to 800 degrees Celsius. Geometal® glitter flakes are stable up to 280 degrees Celsius. Geometal® is more sensitive to friction.
